Joe Turek

Joe Turek has passed on following a motor vehicle collision that occurred a few weeks ago. His son, Shawn, reports Joe passed around 1300 hours on 6/15 at the hospital in Texas.

Joe was an exceptional person in many ways. He was first, foremost and always a United States Marine. He was a long time member of East Fork Fire through the Johnson Lane Volunteers. Joe taught many of us in the various ELF classes through the years. He volunteered with Douglas County Communications following his retirement as an East Fork volunteer
where he designed the radio system we use today.

His injuries were sustained during a motorcycle accident on a veteran's ride to D.C.: two things that were very dear to him.

As we learn more, we will pass along further details.

East Fork and Tahoe Douglas personnel with the Governor after bill signings to establish a firefighter memorial on the capital grounds and to provide additional penalties for crimes committeed against First responders.
