September Fire Safety Resources
Fire Prevention & Safety - September 3, 2019

September is National Preparedness Month

This year, FEMA focused on family and community disaster and emergency planning now. You can find web resources and social media posts at

Not every hero wears a cape. Plan your escape.

This year, let's focus on the small actions everyone can take to keep themselves and their families safer from fire.

Teach your community about the importance of having working smoke alarms in their home. And, just as important, they need to have a family escape plan and practice it.

You know how quickly little fires can grow into big fires. Make sure to let your community know, they may have as little as two minutes to escape from their home after they hear the smoke alarm.

USFA has many resources you can use to teach the importance of home escape plans.

Connect. Communicate. Collaborate. Join your fire marshal colleagues on the Fire Marshal Interchange (FMI) today!

The FMI is a secure information platform that allows fire marshals from across the United States to share knowledge and information. By sharing information on the FMI with others in your profession, you will help bring awareness to - and learn about - problems and trends that threaten the lives of those we have sworn to protect from fire and life safety issues.

The FMI provides:

    Discussion boards to share information.
Reference libraries with topical categories to share documents.
A multimedia section to share pictures and videos.
A contact list for fire marshals nationwide.
    Training resource links.
A training and resource list calendar.

The FMI website resides on the Homeland Security Information Network (HSIN). Learn more about HSIN
